EastEnders, Coronation Street and Home and Away fans know them best for their on-screen dramas in Walford, Weatherfield and Summer Bay, but did you know that a number of popular soap stars also have starring roles on Netflix?
Here, we take a look at some of the notable cast members who can be seen in surprising projects on the online streaming service:
Jesse Spencer (House)
With Neighbours' ongoing 30th anniversary celebrations making many soap fans feel nostalgic at the moment, there's no better time to get caught up with how Jesse Spencer's career progressed after he bowed out as Ramsay Street's Billy Kennedy.
Jesse starred as the young soap heartthrob between 1994 and 2000, but his breakthrough international role came in 2004 when he signed up to play Dr Robert Chase in House. The character of Robert sticks with the show for the full eight-season run, making him the longest-serving member of House's staff.
Luke Mitchell (The Tomorrow People)
What to Read Next
Luke played Home and Away heartbreaker Romeo Smith from 2009 until 2013. US success beckoned for Luke immediately afterwards, as he then landed the regular role of John Young in sci-fi series The Tomorrow People, the full 22-episode run of which is available to watch on Netflix.
The Tomorrow People's story focuses on a number of young people who work together to defeat the forces of evil, with the help of special powers they possess as a result of the next stage in human evolution. Luke's character John is the leader of the group, making him central to much of the on-screen drama.
Ross Kemp (Ross Kemp: Alive in Alaska and Extras)
Since leaving his role as EastEnders hardman Grant Mitchell, Ross has become well-known for his hard-hitting Sky documentary programmes, but Netflix offers a rare chance to see his first outing as a filmmaker as he stars in 1999's Alive in Alaska. The show sees the soap star turn explorer in the Alaskan wilderness, which is home to rich wildlife.
For an extra helping of Ross, Netflix is also home to the BBC comedy Extras, which sees him play a twisted version of himself in episode two.
Emer Kenny (Pramface)
Long before Danny Dyer headed up the Carter clan in EastEnders, Emer Kenny was helping to fly the flag for the family in 2010 as she played Shirley's feisty niece Zsa Zsa.
One of Emer's most memorable roles since leaving Walford has been as party girl Danielle Reeves in comedy-drama Pramface. The show tells the story of two teenagers who end up expecting a baby together following a drunken encounter at a party, which changes their lives forever. Danielle is the best friend of lead character Laura, and features throughout the whole series.
Katherine Kelly (Mr Selfridge)
Katherine is fondly remembered by soap fans for her role as Coronation Street's Becky McDonald, but she has since proved her versatility as an actress by moving onto the role of Lady Mae Loxley in Mr Selfridge.
A powerful and influential socialite, Lady Mae is one of the most popular and complex characters in the period drama, which charts the story of Harry Gordon Selfridge and his department store Selfridge and Co. The first two series are currently available for viewing on Netflix, and Corrie fans should also watch out for current cast member Oliver Farnworth (Andy Carver) starring as Florian DuPont in the second series.
Tammin Sursok (Pretty Little Liars)
Tammin portrayed troubled Dani Sutherland on Home and Away between 2000 and 2004, but is now better known for her role as scheming Jenna Marshall on the addictive teen mystery series Pretty Little Liars.
Manipulative Jenna has a troubled history with the four lead characters, making her one of the top suspects for the elusive figure known only as 'A' who is stalking the Liars and threatening to reveal their secrets. Netflix has the exclusive rights to Pretty Little Liars in the UK.
Madeleine West (Underbelly)
In a far cry from sunny Neighbours and Home and Away, drama series Underbelly presents a look at the grittier side of Australian television, exploring the real-life Melbourne gangland war that took place between 1995 and 2004.
There are a number of familiar soap faces who pop up across the show's run, including Kevin Harrington (Neighbours' David Bishop), Caroline Gillmer (Neighbours' Cheryl Stark) and Robert Mammone (Home and Away's Sid Walker), but fans might get a particular kick out of seeing Madeleine West back in action after her watery Neighbours demise as Dee Bliss. Madeleine plays gangster girlfriend Danielle McGuire in the show, featuring in six episodes.
