We couldn't be more psyched for Tina Fey's return to comedy writing. From the pen of the genius behind Mean Girls and 30 Rock, and fellow Saturday Night Live alumnus Robert Carlock, comes Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt the story of a woman who is released from a doomsday cult's basement after 15 years, and decides to bring her unique outlook to the big city.

Fey isn't starring in it, but there are some familiar (and unfamiliar) faces appearing in the first season of the Netflix original show. Here's where you may have seen them before and what you can expect from them in the show:

Ellie Kemper (Kimmy Schmidt)

Kemper is probably best known for her role as Erin Hannon in the US remake/reimagining of The Office. She was one of the mismatched bridesmaids in Paul Feig's Bridesmaids, and was also seen in 21 Jump Street and Identity Thief.

Now the actress is taking the centre stage as the former cultist determined to squeeze the most out of her new life above ground.

Jane Krakowski (Jacqueline Voorhees)

What to Read Next

This one's an easy one. Krakowski played the unforgettable, self-obsessed actress Jenna Maroney in 30 Rock. Going further back, she was Ally McBeal's face bra-inventing receptionist Elaine Vassal.

She will be playing wealthy and jaded Manhattanite Jacqueline Voorhees, who employs Kimmy as a nanny.

Tituss Burgess (Titus)

Burgess is known more for his work on stage than screen. This show reunites him with Fey after his small but memorable role as D'Fwan, a member of Angie Jordan's entourage in 30 Rock's in-show reality series 'Queen of Jordan'.

He will play Titus, Kimmy's gay actor roommate who helps her adjust to life in the city. He works a series of odd jobs including playing Iron Man in Times Square and a werewolf(?!) at a themed restaurant while he waits for his big break.

Carol Kane (Lillian)

Veteran actress Carol Kane has an Emmy Award and Oscar nomination under her belt, and featured in classics Annie Hall, The Princess Bride and TV show Taxi. She is also another member of the cast with a background on Broadway. More recently she had a guest appearance in Girls and a recurring role as Gotham's Gertrud Kapelput.

She will play Kimmy's new landlord Lillian, who gives the wide-eyed woman a place to live in the big city and likes a good-natured snoop into her tenants' lives.

Sara Chase (Cyndee)

Chase is another stage star, who featured in First Date on Broadway and The Toxic Avenger off of it, as well as winning awards for her role as all three mistresses in First Wives Club the Musical. She had minor roles on screen in Arrested Development, Arthur and As the World Turns.

Chase will appear as Cyndee, another escapee from the doomsday cult, and a little sister figure for Kimmy. After their escape, she opens a pet store in Indiana and uses her fame as one of the 'mole women' to acquire a series of free gifts and holidays.

Dylan Gelula (Xanthippe Voorhees)

Gelula featured in TV shows Chasing Life and Jennifer Falls, with the near-obligatory guests appearances in NCIS and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

In the show she will play Jacqueline's stepdaughter, a pretty and popular New York cool kid. But is there more to her than her tough exterior suggests?
