This Sunday (February 8), the biggest and brightest stars will travel to Los Angeles for the 57th annual Grammy Awards.

It's the most prestigious night in the music calendar with the likes of Madonna, Rihanna, Kanye West, Paul McCartney, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran and Sia all confirmed to perform.

Ahead of the ceremony, we've looked at some of the main categories (out of 78 awards to be handed out!) to predict who we think will walk home victorious.

General Field

Album Of The Year
Morning Phase - Beck
Beyoncé - Beyoncé
x - Ed Sheeran
In the Lonely Hour - Sam Smith WINNER
GIRL - Pharrell Williams

Even though he's admitted that he'd be embarrassed if he won this award over Beyoncé, Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour has made such a global impact over the past 12 months that we predict he will clinch the Grammy come February 8.

What to Read Next

Record Of The Year
'Fancy' - Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX
'Chandelier' - Sia WINNER
'Stay with Me' (Darkchild Version) - Sam Smith
'Shake It Off' - Taylor Swift
'All About That Bass' - Meghan Trainor

Don't get us wrong, we consider Sia's 'Chandelier' to be one of the biggest hits of 2013, but looking at its chart stats in the US and UK, it only peaked at numbers six and eight respectively. It's emotive delivery, heart-rending lyrics and swarming production worked together so well that it deserved to absolutely smash everywhere, so we think a Grammy Award would give it the proper recognition it deserves.

Song Of The Year
'All About That Bass' - Meghan Trainor
'Chandelier' - Sia
'Shake It Off' - Taylor Swift WINNER
'Stay with Me' - Sam Smith
'Take Me to Church' - Hozier

The fact Taylor Swift has decided to try and trademark "this sick beat" shows just how much of an impact 'Shake It Off' has had globally over the past year. Although this is an extremely tough category, we think T-Swizz will clinch this one on Sunday.

Best New Artist
Bastille
Iggy Azalea
Brandy Clark
Haim
Sam Smith WINNER

There is some incredible new talent in this category, but after becoming the only artist to sell over a million albums in both the UK and US in 2014, we're expecting Sam Smith to edge this one.

Pop Field

Best Pop Vocal Album
Ghost Stories - Coldplay
Bangerz - Miley Cyrus
My Everything - Ariana Grande
Prism - Katy Perry
x - Ed Sheeran
In the Lonely Hour - Sam Smith WINNER

We know we're in danger of sounding like a stuck record, but there's no denying that Sam Smith's effortlessly soulful tone on In The Lonely Hour deserves recognition as the best vocal on a pop album this past year. His closest competition comes from Ed Sheeran, while Katy Perry could sneak through as a dark horse.

Best Pop Solo Performance
'All of Me' (Live) - John Legend
'Chandelier' - Sia
'Stay with Me' - Sam Smith
'Shake It Off' - Taylor Swift
'Happy' - Pharrell WINNER

Love it or hate it, Pharrell's 'Happy' is one of the most infectious, feel-good pop songs in recent memory. And while he may not have the best vocal in this category, his delivery and enthusiasm on the track is what, in part, made the song so appealing.

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance
'Fancy' - Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX WINNER
'A Sky Full of Stars' - Coldplay
'Say Something' - A Great Big World with Christina Aguilera
'Bang Bang' - Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj
'Dark Horse' - Katy Perry featuring Juicy J

While Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj's 'Bang Bang' is a worthy contender, we suspect Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX will clinch this one. 'Fancy' dominated the airwaves in 2014, and that hook is one damn good earworm.

Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album
Cheek to Cheek - Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga WINNER
Nostalgia - Annie Lennox
Night Songs - Barry Manilow
Sending You a Little Christmas - Johnny Mathis
Partners - Barbra Streisand

A surprisingly strong category, but we'd put our money on Bennett and Gaga nabbing the trophy over Barbra Streisand and Annie Lennox. Cheek To Cheek is a charming collection that hears Gaga embrace a musical passion of hers in the presence of a bonafide legend.

Dance/Electronica Field

Best Dance Recording
'Never Say Never' - Basement Jaxx
'Rather Be' - Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne
'F for You' - Disclosure featuring Mary J Blige WINNER
'I Got You' - Duke Dumont featuring Jax Jones
'Faded' - Zhu

The popularity of electronic dance music grew immeasurably in 2014. We can see Disclosure and Mary J Blige taking this one, but if not, then we'd say Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne have a decent chance too.

Best Dance/Electronic Album
Syro - Aphex Twin
While (1 - Deadmaus
Nabuma Rubberband - Little Dragon WINNER
Do It Again - Röyksopp & Robyn
Damage Control - Mat Zo

As much as we'd absolutely love Röyksopp & Robyn to walk away with the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album, we're more inclined to predict Little Dragon will win this one for the fantastic Nabuma Rubberband.

Rock Field

Best Rock Performance
'Gimme Something Good' - Ryan Adams
'Do I Wanna Know?' - Arctic Monkeys
'Blue Moon' - Beck
'Fever' - The Black Keys WINNER
'Lazaretto' - Jack White

This was The Black Keys' fourth number one on the Alt Rock chart in the US, so we're expecting them to pip Arctic Monkeys and Jack White to the post.

Best Rock Album
Ryan Adams - Ryan Adams
Morning Phase - Beck WINNER
Turn Blue - The Black Keys
Hypnotic Eye - Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers
Songs of Innocence - U2

Considering his Album Of The Year nomination, we're assuming that Grammy voters are fans of Beck's Morning Phase, so that's where we'd put our money. Just imagine the carnage if U2 won, though.

Best Rock Song
'Ain't It Fun' - Paramore WINNER
'Blue Moon' - Beck
'Fever' - The Black Keys
'Gimme Something Good' - Ryan Adams
'Lazaretto' - Jack White

Despite some great contenders, we'd like Paramore to take this home for 'Ain't It Fun', which became their first ever Top 10 hit on the BIllboard Hot 100 chart.

Rap Field

Best Rap Performance
'3005' - Childish Gambino
'0 to 100 / The Catch Up' - Drake
'Rap God' - Eminem
'i' - Kendrick Lamar WINNER
'All I Need Is You' - Lecrae

Kendrick Lamar's performance on 'i' is too good for him to not take this Grammy home. But then stranger things have happened before, haven't they Macklemore?

Best Rap Album
Because the Internet - Childish Gambino
The New Classic - Iggy Azalea
Nobody's Smiling - Common
Marshall Mathers LP 2 - Eminem WINNER
Oxymoron - ScHoolboy Q
Blacc Hollywood - Wiz Khalifa

Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP2 was yet another critical and commercial success for the rapper, so we predict he will pick up the 14th Grammy Award of his career in this category.

Best Rap/Sung Collaboration
'Blak Majik' - Common featuring Jhené Aiko
'The Monster' - Eminem featuring Rihanna
'Tuesday' - I Love Makonnen featuring Drake
'Studio' - Schoolboy Q featuring BJ The Chicago Kid
'Bound 2' - Kanye West & Charlie Wilson WINNER

He may give the Grammy committee some food for thought when it comes to nominations, but there's no avoiding the fact that Kanye West's 'Bound 2' is a very good song that deserves a Grammy.

Best Rap Song
'Anaconda' - Nicki Minaj
'Bound 2' - Kanye West & Charlie Wilson WINNER
'i' - Kendrick Lamar
'We Dem Boyz' - Wiz Khalifa
'0 to 100 / The Catch Up' - Drake

Why only settle for one Kanye West rant at the Grammys when you could have two?

R&B Field

Best R&B Song
'Drunk in Love' - Beyoncé featuring Jay Z WINNER
'Good Kisser' - Usher
'New Flame' - Chris Brown featuring Usher & Rick Ross
'Options (Wolfjames Version)' - Luke James featuring Rick Ross
'The Worst' - Jhené Aiko

'Drunk In Love' is, without doubt, one of the greatest songs in Beyoncé's entire discography. Best R&B Song of 2014? Easily.

Best Urban Contemporary Album
Sail Out - Jhene Aiko
Beyoncé - Beyoncé WINNER
X - Chris Brown
Mali Is … - Mali Music
Girl - Pharrell Williams

Beyoncé is quite easily one of the most daring albums the star has put out to date, and with its surprise release basically breaking the internet, we'd say Beyoncé should have this one in the bag.

Best R&B Performance
'Drunk in Love' - Beyoncé featuring Jay Z WINNER
'New Flame' - Chris Brown featuring Usher & Rick Ross
'It's Your World' - Jennifer Hudson featuring R Kelly
'Like This' - Ledisi
'Good Kisser' - Usher

Beyoncé and Jay Z proved once again that, not only are they one of music's most powerful couples, they can still lay down a pretty powerful collaboration.

Alternative Field

Best Alternative Music Album
This Is All Yours - alt-J
Reflektor - Arcade Fire WINNER
Melophobia - Cage The Elephant
St. Vincent - St. Vincent
Lazaretto - Jack White

Both alt-J and St Vincent have a decent shot at nabbing this, but we think Arcade Fire will walk home victorious on the night. Reflektor is a great album and their corresponding tour brought it completely to life.

Music For Visual Media Field

Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media
American Hustle
Frozen WINNER
Get On Up
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Wolf of Wall Street

The Frozen soundtrack sold over 3 million copies in the US alone last year as part of Disney's biggest phenomenon ever. There would quite possibly be a riot if it didn't win.

Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media
Frozen WINNER
Gone Girl
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Gravity
Saving Mr Banks

The score for Gravity is phenomenal and we'd consider it as a very serious contender, but we suspect Frozen will reign supreme at this year's Grammys.

Best Song Written For Visual Media

'Everything Is Awesome!!!' - Tegan and Sara featuring The Lonely Island (The Lego Movie)
'I See Fire' - Ed Sheeran, (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug)
'I'm Not Gonna Miss You' - Glen Campbell (Glen Campbell, I'll Be Me)
'Let It Go' - Idina Menzel (Frozen) WINNER
'The Moon Song' - Scarlett Johansson & Joaquin Phoenix (Her)

When Idina Menzel goes up to collect this with the writers, can we get John Travolta to present it, please?

Music Video Field

Best Music Video
'We Exist' - Arcade Fire
'Turn Down for What' - DJ Snake & Lil' Jon
'Chandelier' - Sia WINNER
'Happy' - Pharrell Williams
'The Golden Age' - Woodkid featuring Max Richter

Part of the reason 'Chandelier' made such a mighty impact was down to Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler's impeccable and hypnotic performance in the accompanying music video. The choreography and execution was a perfect merging of performance art and pop, that it deserves to be honoured with a Grammy Award.
