Kanye West has revealed his intentions behind his controversial new music video for 'Famous', which premiered on TIDAL last night (June 24).

The video shows Kanye in a bed naked with a group of the world's most famous faces - including his wife Kim Kardashian West, his ex-girlfriend Amber Rose, Taylor Swift, Rhianna, Donald Trump and Bill Cosby.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, West insisted that the video does not endorse or hit out at any of the featured names - and he's also not admitting which, if any, of the stars actually filmed the video themselves.

"It's not in support or anti any of [them]," he said. "It's a comment on fame."

It's a fairly apt comment for a song called 'Famous' but the fact that it features Taylor Swift, as well as includes a lyric that's been the subject of a public battle between the two for months, is another matter entirely.

Taylor continues to deny that she gave her permission to be mentioned on the track, but Kim recently claimed Taylor "totally gave the okay" for her husband to refer to her as a "bitch" in the song.

The singer has issued a statement re-iterating that her approval was not received before the song was released, writing: "Kanye West never told Taylor he was going to use the term, "that bitch" in referencing her. A song cannot be approved if it was never heard.

"Kanye West never played the song for Taylor Swift. Taylor heard it for the first time when everyone else did and was humiliated."

The jury's still out on whether Kanye asked permission to use Taylor's likeness in his recent video - and Digital Spy has reached out for comment on that one - but one person who's approval Kanye definitely did get for the rather risqué video was his wife's.

"[I say] a lot of lines other wives would not allow a husband to say," he explained. "But my wife also puts up photos that other husbands wouldn't let them put up.

"One of the keys to happiness in our marriage is we're allowed to be ourselves."

'Famous' is available on Tidal now.
