Rogue One: A Star Wars has garnered some really positive reviews (just read our take on it) and the film has had an impressive few days at the box office.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy had an amazing debut – earning $71.1 million on Friday at the North American box office. While it's unknown exactly what the weekend figures will be, it's looking like it could reach somewhere in the region of $155 million.

But despite that being an incredible sum for just a few days in cinemas – at least for most other flicks – it looks like Rogue One will still come second best to Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

Last year's reboot of the franchise broke box office records, earning a colossal $238 million from its opening weekend.

The Force Awakens earned the highest ever opening weekend in the US, pushing Jurassic World's $208 million off the top spot. But still, for Rogue One to earn those kind of figures is a feat in itself.

The only other film to be released the same week was Collateral Beauty – featuring an all-star cast of Will Smith, Kate Winslet, Keira Knightley, Helen Mirren, Edward Norton, Michael Pena and Naomie Harris. However, the film looks like it's going to debut to far lower figures at just $7-$7.5 million.
