Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third instalment in James Cameron's epic sci-fi saga, has unveiled its first trailer.
Scheduled for release in December, the film picks up from 2022's The Way of Water, continuing the story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) as they protect the Na'vi way of life from the villainous Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang).
Naturally, the trailer showcases the beauty of Pandora, but it also includes a first look at Varang (Oona Chaplin), the Na'vi leader of the volcano-dwelling Ash People. Though only a brief clip, the character is particularly menacing in an encounter with Kiri (Sigourney Weaver).
Though plot details have largely been kept under wraps, Cameron did recently tease Varang's clash with the central characters, explaining that the new character would be driven by "hardship".
"Varang is the leader of a people who have gone through an incredible hardship. She's hardened by that," the director told Empire Magazine.

"She will do anything for them, even things that we would consider to be evil. One thing we wanted to do in this film is not be black-and-white simplistic," Cameron continued. "We're trying to evolve beyond the 'all humans are bad, all Na'vi are good' paradigm."
As well as the Ash Clan, fans can also expect to meet The Wind Traders, or Tlalim Clan. Leading them will be Peylak, a chieftain played by Harry Potter and Kaos star David Thewlis.

Speaking with Empire, the film's costume designer Deborah L Scott described The Wind Traders as "upbeat, happy, colourful".
"When they come into our movie, everyone's excited to see them. It's like the circus is in town," she noted, adding that Thewlis is "absolutely stunning" as Peylak.
Avatar: Fire and Ash will be released in UK cinemas on 19 December.
