As expected earlier this week, we finally have our first look at Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

The trailer was unveiled during the film's panel at the Star Wars Celebration event, arriving online shortly after the crowd got the exclusive first look.

As with The Force Awakens, the first trailer doesn't give much of the plot away, but we do get to see Rey (Daisy Ridley) training with a lightsaber and using the Force, and a Resistance base under attack, with Poe (Oscar Isaac) in danger.

Most chilling of all is Luke's words that end the trailer: "I only know one truth. It's time for the Jedi to end."

Last month saw the very first footage screened from The Last Jedi for a lucky group of Disney investors, with Chewbacca, Finn (John Boyega) and General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) all making appearances.

The footage picked up directly after The Force Awakens with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) asking Rey, "who are you?", before she "deftly" handled a lightsaber.

It's also been revealed that the storyline of The Last Jedi hasn't been changed in the wake of Fisher's death.

"Carrie appears throughout 8. We are not changing 8 to deal with her passing. Her performance – which we're really pleased with – remains as it is in 8," explained Disney CEO Bob Iger.

Plans are also already in the works for General Leia to appear in Episode 9 without using any CGI to digitally recreate the late Fisher.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi flies into cinemas on December 15.
