Disney's US streaming service is ramping up its Netflix rivalry by introducing original TV series and movies exclusively for the app.

Last month, Disney announced that it would pull all new Disney and Pixar releases from Netflix US when its own streaming service launches in 2019.

And, speaking earlier this week, departing Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the Mouse House will be offering plenty of original content to the service's customers.

According to Iger, 'four to five Disney-branded TV series' and 'three to four TV movies' are being developed to coincide with the launch of the app, which we bet Amazon and Netflix are thrilled about.

"The studio will produce four to five original films exclusively for the app," Iger told The Wrap.

"The studio library will be available on app. That will be 400-500 films.

"On the TV side, we're going to create four to five Disney-branded TV series for the app. And we're going to produce three to four television movies that are Disney-branded.

"[It's a] treasure trove of high-quality branded content for the app."

And rival (and perhaps bigger-budget) original content isn't the only problem facing Netflix as Disney's service prepares to come to screens.

Iger also recently revealed that Disney had not yet decided the fate of its Marvel and Star Wars movies, which currently feature in its deal with Netflix.

The two pop culture giants are currently in talks regarding the rights of the movies, but sorry Netflix, looks like Disney is hellbent on becoming king of the streaming jungle.
