Director Zack Snyder has just confirmed a pretty grim fan theory about DC's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – and no, it's not that the film was too long.
In fact, it's all to do with the Christ-like presentation of Henry Cavill's Superman, and the idea that he's haunted by the lives of people he wasn't able to save. Deep.

Laying out their kinda morbid theory, one fan (as spotted by Reddit) referenced the scene in Batman v Superman where Superman is greeted by a crowd who had been celebrating the Day of the Dead after he saved a girl from a burning factory.
Noting the not-so subtle nod to skulls and death, they said: "Clark [is] just trying to do the right thing but everyone just refers to him as some 'higher power'...

"[T]he day of the dead partakers put their hands on him, almost as if he's a god they could finally meet."
Not convinced? Well, you should be – because director Zack Snyder himself weighed in on the theory and confirmed it. "No no that's right," he replied.
Sadly for us, and Clark of course, Batman v Superman's allusions to death quickly turned from metaphorical to literal, as Superman died.
Despite his passing – which we were never truly convinced by – Snyder has promised that Superman will still play "a big part" in the upcoming Justice League movie.
"His presence, and lack of presence, are big story points," he teased.
