With the Marvel Cinematic Universe zoning in on unknown territory after Avengers 4, talk about one of the Guardians of the Galaxy getting their own spinoff is only natural.

Digital Spy put the question of a solo Drax movie directly to Dave Bautista at the red carpet premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 on Monday — and, sadly, he didn't seem very optimistic.

"[The odds are] pretty low, I think," the ever-humble Bautista said. "I think Drax without the rest of his crew is just not very interesting.

"I think he's got a great story, I think he's got a deep story but I just don't know he'd work without the rest of the Guardians. Also, I think there's going to be timeline issues. Right now, we have one super-villain that we all want to kill (Thanos).

"There's only one person who's going to get to kill him. Will that be Drax, played by Dave Bautista? Probably not."

However, Big Dave is more optimistic about a potential team-up adventure for Drax and a new Guardian, the empathic Mantis (Pom Klementieff), in the future.

"That'd be a lot of fun. I'd be all up for that," he told us. "She's, kind of, the counter for Drax. I think there's definitely a lot more to be seen there."

Next up for the Guardians is their first-ever meeting with Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow and Doctor Strange in Avengers: Infinity War — which begs the question of who'd win an actual war between the Guardians and the Avengers.

"Oh Guardians, easily. Seriously," Dave teased. "[The Avengers] are true-blue superheros… [Director] James Gunn always said [the Guardians] aren't superheroes. It'd be a toss-up."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 opens in the UK on April 28, 2017, and in the US on May 5, 2017. Watch Digital Spy speak with the cast at Monday's European premiere below:
