Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 blew us all away with its out-of-this-world Super Bowl 51 trailer and melted our hearts with the introduction of Baby Groot - now it's been revealed that the superhero sequel will be heading to Earth.

Kevin Feige is Supreme Ruler and Overlord of everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or just President at Marvel if you're going to go by his actual job title), and the man himself has revealed an interesting, albeit tiny Baby Groot-sized, morsel of information about the upcoming sequel.

Speaking to Cinema Blend on the set of the new film, the 43-year-old explained: "There's a little bit of Earth in this film, but it's not these characters going to Earth."

So there you have it, we'll be making another visit to our lowly planet in the film, just not with Peter Quill, Rocket Raccoon and the rest of the Guardians crew.

Sadly this means we won't be seeing Chris Pratt's Star Lord trading super-banter with Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man, although the crew are confirmed to be tangling with Earth's mightiest heroes in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.

So what could this visit to Earth actually entail? Well, we already know that Ego the Living Planet, aka Peter Quill's father, will feature in this film - either in giant planet form or human-shaped Kurt Russell form - so it's likely to be a flashback to how he met Quill's mother.

What to Read Next

Hopefully Quill can be sat on a space-sofa intently listening to the anecdote while Bob Saget narrates and misses out lots of key details.

We're not sure how a woman would logistically have sex and get pregnant from an entire planet, living or dead, but maybe the movie will shed some light on this.

We did already get a flashback to Earth in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, which introduced us to Peter's mother on her deathbed. So this seems to be a likely plot thread to continue.
