Disney is currently 'weighing up' what to do about Carrie Fisher's storyline in the remaining Star Wars films.
Months before Carrie died from suspected cardiac arrest on December 27, she had actually wrapped filming on this year's highly-anticipated eighth Star Wars movie – which reunites her with Mark Hamill, her co-star in the original trilogy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Episode 9 director Colin Trevorrow is set to meet with Lucasfilm on January 10 to discuss script rewrites, scene reshoots, and/or the use of CGI. But the script seems to be the biggest challenge.
Princess Leia, now-General Leia Organa, was set to feature in at least two key scenes in the continuing story: her reunion with long-lost brother Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), and her confrontation with son Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) after he murdered his father Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
In the meantime, we can all look forward to seeing Carrie's General Leia leading the Resistance into battle against The First Order in director Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode 8, which will be released on December 15, 2017.
Carrie and her mother Debbie Reynolds – another Hollywood icon – were remembered by close friends and family at a private memorial service yesterday.
