Kong: Skull Island's next generation of King Kong is massive and completely terrifying in a first-look picture.

The over-sized and extremely angry gorilla truly is huge in a preview released by Entertainment Weekly, only he's not technically a gorilla at all.

"This is something that is its own species," director Jordan Vogt-Roberts revealed to the magazine.

Producer Alex Garcia hinted over the summer that Kong will actually be 100 feet tall, a sizeable jump from his already-intimidating 25-foot height in 1933's King Kong.

"I think we're still really compelled by what we don't understand," star Tom Hiddleston added at Comic-Con International. "As a society and as individuals we need to be humbled by the size and majesty of our planet.

"Anyone who's seen a whale in the wild, or anyone who's got lost in the jungle, we're still profoundly moved by that sense of awe. I think Kong appeals to that sense of awe. We need to feel small."

The current plan is for Kong to eventually battle Warner Bros' other monster Godzilla in the ultimate movie monster showdown, provided that Skull Island is a success.
