Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens isn't even in cinemas yet, but it has already been confirmed that its sequel Episode VIII will begin shooting this month in Ireland.

Initial reports claimed that The Force Awakens was regrouping for reshoots in the country, but it has now been confirmed that in fact the cast and crew will start filming Episode VIII.

The production unit went under the general name of 'Star Wars', which led to confusion over which film was actually being shot.

Lucasfilm has now confirmed (via Entertainment Weekly) that the next film will begin shooting this month on the island of Skellig Michael off the southern coast of Ireland, after filming in the country was previously confirmed by RTÉ.

Rian Johnson will direct the as-yet untitled sequel for a 2017 release, taking over from JJ Abrams who is directing The Force Awakens.
