Kong: Skull Island may have lost Michael Keaton and JK Simmons, but it could be about to gain Samuel L Jackson.

According to Deadline, the Pulp Fiction star is being considered to replace Simmons, while John C Reilly is the top choice to step into Keaton's shoes.

Meanwhile, Tom Wilkinson is also thought to have been offered a lead role in the cast too.

Russell Crowe was understood to be holding talks for a role, but there has been no official confirmation of his involvement.

Whoever is eventually cast would join lead Tom Hiddleston in the film, which is a reboot of the classic King Kong story centring around the explorers who head to the titular character's intimidating island jungle.

Universal is looking to release Kong: Skull Island on March 10, 2017.
