If you're up for a sobby romance, Netflix's new romantic drama My Oxford Year may be just up your street.

Set in (you guessed it) Oxford, the streamer's new movie stars Queen Charlotte's Corey Mylchreest alongside Carry-On's Sofia Carson.

Carson maintains the title of Netflix's new rom-com queen after the success of The Life List as Anna De La Vega, a visiting student who trades New York for Oxford and falls for her poetry professor, Jamie Davenport (Mylchreest).

What could've been a fun fling turns into something much more intense when Anna catches feelings.

However, Jamie, who has a bit of a reputation as the campus' womaniser (not exactly a good look for a professor), insists they're not an item, harbouring an obscure secret.

Cue scenes of Anna begging him to let her in, crying in the rain and throw all her friends' advice and common sense out of the window for a man who just casually reads Sylvia Plath while he's in bed next to you.

Whether you wish to tag along for Anna's somewhat self-destructive ride or you want to scream at the screen that she better just ditch Jamie before it's too late, My Oxford Year is on Netflix now.

Based on the debut book of the same name by Julia Whelan, who did spend a year in Oxford as a student, the movie has been branded a "disheartening weepie" by Variety.

Behind the camera is The Inbetweeners co-creator Iain Morris, who directs a script by Allison Burnett and Melissa Osborne.

My Oxford Year also stars Dougray Scott and Catherine McCormack as Jamie's parents William and Antonia, Harry Trevaldwyn as Anna's new pal Charlie Butler, and Poppy Gilbert as Cecelia Knowles.

My Oxford Year is streaming on Netflix.
