Keanu Reeves has said that we shouldn't expect John Wick to make a proper return.

The Matrix actor played the dog-loving assassin in four films, with the character meeting his end in the climax of Chapter 4.

While films and TV shows have been known to play the fake-out death card, Reeves told Extra that there are no plans for further movies starring the character.

He did note that there is an exception in a spin-off film set between Chapter 3 and 4, in which he's already been confirmed to be returning in.

"There's a version of it called Ballerina, which is in the John Wick world, and John Wick makes a brief appearance," he said. "So, other than that, I have no idea."

"You know, the character's dead. He died in John Wick: Chapter 4," Reeves continued, with a laugh.

"I know, in Hollywood you can... I know, I know, it's the Hollywood story. Right now, there isn't [any plans]."

Director Chad Stahelski has also stated the fourth film was "closure" for the character, explaining that: "The honest truth is you don't [top John Wick: Chapter 4]. You simply don't"

He did say that there is workshopping and development going on for a fifth film, but he described it as more of an "exercise" than something actively being pursued.

"So we have some really good ideas, and it would not be part of that [John Wick: Chapter 4] storyline. It would not be what you would think it is," he said.

The John Wick movies are available to buy or rent on Prime Video, plus DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD. Ballerina is set for release on June 6.
