Steven Spielberg may have directed the first two instalments in the Jurassic Park franchise, but the latest film in the series - Jurassic World Rebirth - has been compared to another of his films.
It was announced earlier this year that Universal Pictures were planning a fourth entry in the Jurassic World series, marking the seventh film in the overall franchise which began in 1993.
In subsequent months, the project got a director - Gareth Edwards - and a whole host of stars - Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali - as the next slice of dinosaur-fuelled action began to take shape.

With the release less than seven months away, Edwards - who has previously worked on the Star Wars and Godzilla franchises - spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming film, likening it to Spielberg’s iconic commercial and critical breakthrough, Jaws.
“To me, it's a giant love letter to Steven Spielberg and his earlier films,” said Edwards. “There are moments in this movie that remind me very much of Jaws. It’s like [a] little greatest hits of all those aspects of his films that I loved growing up as a child.

“It's essentially a little adventure odyssey across this island, a survival story, really,” added the director, before he explained how the central trio mirrored the characters of Brody, Hooper, and Quint from Spielberg’s 1975 film.

“It’s that kind of triangle between three different overlapping characters,” he said. “There's a lot of fun between the three of them that really popped out to me. It's less of a love triangle and much more of a competitive ‘who's the alpha in the group?’ kind of way.”
Jurassic World Rebirth, which is set five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, follows “skilled covert operations expert” Zora Bennett (Johansson) as she leads a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from the world's three most massive dinosaurs.
Jurassic World Rebirth is scheduled to be released on July 2, 2025.
