Sundance Film Festival has released a first-look image of Benedict Cumberbatch in upcoming thriller The Thing with Feathers.

The Doctor Strange actor stars in writer-director Dylan Southern's adaptation of the Max Porter novella Grief Is the Thing with Feathers. Cumberbatch is set to play the protagonist, a grief-stricken father of two who struggles to cope with his wife's sudden death whilst taking care of his children.

As he loses his grip on reality, the protagonist's grief starts to take on physical forms, with a malign entity closing in on him in his family's apartment.

The Thing with Feathers will receive its world premiere at Sundance, running between January 23 and February 2 next year. There is still no word as to when the film will be available in the UK, but we will keep you updated on wider release details.

Cumberbatch will next be seen opposite Olivia Colman in the remake of 1989 divorce dark comedy, The War of the Roses.

Based on author Warren Adler's 1981 novel, the film centres on a ruthless divorce battle, with each party willing to do whatever it takes to have their way.

The new War of the Roses, whose first movie adaptation starred Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas, is directed by Jay Roach (of Austin Powers fame) and written by Poor Things Oscar-nominated scribe Tony McNamara.

The Thing with Feathers will premiere at Sundance Film Festival in early 2025. Other global release dates are to be announced in due course.
