Love Actually fans have shared their shock after noticing a heartbreaking hidden detail in that Emma Thompson moment.

One of the most talked-about parts from the 2003 Christmas classic is of course the necklace scene, in which Thompson's Karen opens her present expecting it to be a necklace that she found in her husband Harry's (Alan Rickman) coat pocket.

However, she is secretly devastated when she unwraps a Joni Mitchell CD, realising that Harry has bought the necklace for someone else – namely his secretary Mia (Heike Makatsch) – before Karen goes to the bedroom to secretly cry.

Yep, we're still not over it.

However, fans have picked up on a small detail that may have flown over many people's heads: Karen was wearing earrings and more to match the necklace she was expecting to unwrap.

After the fact was posted in a TikTok video, one fan replied: "WAIT. What do you mean she matched her earrings?!! How have I NEVER noticed that???"

"But how have I never noticed the earrings," another added, though a third wrote: "I've always said the earrings, lipstick and cardigan all ready to match it is the saddest part of all."

In other news, fellow Love Actually star Keira Knightley recently opened up on The Graham Norton Show about a "creepy and sweet" moment when builders recreated her famous cue cards scene from the movie.

"I was stuck in traffic for ages recently and a car full of builders next to me started holding up the signs like in the movie," she told audiences. "It was creepy and sweet at the same time, much like it was in the film."

Love Actually is available to stream via NOW and Sky Cinema.
