Emma Thompson's performance in Love Actually, particularly in 'the Joni Mitchell scene', is possibly the most heartbreaking moment in any romantic comedy ever.

It's even more sad when you know that the actress was coming off the back of a very public split with Kenneth Branagh, who was reported to have had an affair with Helena Bonham Carter. It felt like those tears were real.

Now the Harry Potter star has opened up about that performance at a theatre fundraiser (via the Mail Online), saying: "That scene where my character is standing by the bed crying is so well known because it's something everyone's been through.

"I had my heart very badly broken by Ken. So I knew what it was like to find the necklace that wasn't meant for me.

"Well it wasn't exactly that, but we've all been through it."

Thompson has spoken before about how she has made her peace with Bonham Carter, saying: "All blood under the bridge. You can't hold on to anything like that. I just think... pfft.

The star has also spoken a lot recently about predatory men in Hollywood, following the start of the #TimesUp movement.

Elsewhere, she revealed that she once turned down a dinner invite from Donald Trump back in the day.
