In Digital Spy's review, we gave the film three stars out of five and wrote that it was "not an in-depth study" of its subject matter of domestic abuse, but "more like an emotionally cathartic melodrama in the vein of recently successful romance BookTok sensations and Nicholas Sparks' legacy.
"Some viewers might wish It Ends With Us was more than it is, but ultimately the movie can't escape what was on the page. For better or worse."

However, it's not its handling (or mishandling, if you prefer) of such a serious topic that has made the film a controversial talking point this year.
After It Ends With Us was released in August, there were unconfirmed reports of an on-set feud between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, who served as her co-star as well as the film's director.

The two didn't do press together, while Lively and the rest of the movie's cast don't follow Baldoni on Instagram.
Baldoni didn't specifically address the rumours, but did vaguely hint that there was "friction" during the production.
Meanwhile, one of the bosses of Sony Pictures defended Lively after an online backlash against her where fans claimed that she wasn't taking the issue at the centre of the film seriously.
