2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will also be available to watch on ITV2, before heading to ITVX.

The Star Wars franchise kicked off in 1977 with A New Hope, following Mark Hamill's young Luke Skywalker as he begins his Jedi training with Obi-Wan Kenobi and joins him on a mission to rescue Rebel leader Princess Leia from the clutches of Darth Vader and the Empire.

This was followed by 1980 sequel The Empire Strikes Back, in which Luke journeys to the planet Dagobah to train with Jedi Master Yoda after the Rebellion's defeat on Hoth, before confronting Darth Vader and learning a shocking truth about his heritage.

The epic saga concluded with 1983's Return of the Jedi, which sees the Rebels launch an attack on the Empire's new Death Star, while Luke confronts Darth Vader in a final climactic duel before the Emperor.

The Star Wars franchise was revived with a prequel trilogy starting in 1999, a sequel trilogy beginning in 2015, and also expanded further with standalone films like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016 and spin-off TV series including The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.

Set just before the events of A New Hope, Rogue One follows a group of unlikely heroes as they band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star.

Meanwhile, it was recently confirmed that Star Wars will be getting a brand new trilogy from X-Men director and producer Simon Kinberg.

Kinberg will write and produce three films taking place in the Star Wars universe, though it hasn't been confirmed where they will fit in the timeline.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are streaming on Disney+ and also available to buy on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K.
