Roberto Orci has dropped out of directing the upcoming Power Rangers movie due to his prior commitments with Star Trek 3.
Deadline reports that Orci will have no involvement in the project whatsoever. He was also on board as executive producer.
The film is touted as a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers
Orci is taking over the Star Trek director's chair after JJ Abrams left to helm the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII. It will be his first film as director.
Orci has an extensive body of work that includes writing the prior two Star Trek movies, as well as other films including Mission: Impossible III, Transformers and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Power Rangers is still intended to be released worldwide on July 22 2016.
