August brings with it numerous follow-ups to previously successful films, making it a pretty sure bet that they will deliver again. This month's releases are largely dominated by classic 'good vs. evil' storylines, but also include UK comedy and futuristic worlds.

The Inbetweeners 2

Why you should see it: As the title suggests, it's the sequel to the first Inbetweeners movie, which set the record for the biggest opening weekend for a comedy film in the UK, back in 2011. Based on the original E4 sitcom, the boys have gone their separate ways a year on from their debauchery in Crete. Jay, who's staying with an uncle in Australia, emails the boys announcing that he's the biggest DJ in the country. Will, Neil and Simon, all stuck in the UK, need no encouragement in jumping on a plane Down Under to join the party.

The Expendables 3

Why you should see it: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and Jet Li are all back in the third instalment of The Expendables series. Stonebanks (Mel Gibson), co-founder turned arms trader, who has eluded death once before, is on a mission to end The Expendables. Barney (Stallone) however has different intentions, and plans to fight Stonebanks with new blood, bringing in fresh faces to the team.

Why you should see it: Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce star in this crime thriller set in a futuristic Australian outback. 10 years after a global economic collapse, a loner hunts down the men who have stolen his car, the only thing he owned. He captures one of the thieves' brothers (Pattinson) and the two form a bond along their journey. It's director David Michod's follow up to the Oscar-nominated Animal Kingdom.

Why you should see it: Apparently we only use 10% of our brain power, but what happens when we reach 100%? Scarlett Johansson stars in this action sci-fi movie which sees her develop superhuman powers that allows her to turn the tables on her drug trafficker captors. Also starring Morgan Freeman.

Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For

Why you should see it: After 9 years, the sequel to Sin City is finally here, with a star-studded cast including Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis and Mickey Rourke. Based on four of Frank Miller's stories, two of which were written especially for the film, the primary villain is once again corrupt Senator Roarke. New faces are also introduced, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Eva Green joining the lineup.
