Jurassic World's DeWanda Wise is set to play a woman haunted by her childhood stuffed bear, in a new horror film.

As reported by Deadline, the actress will be starring in Lionsgate and Blumhouse's upcoming supernatural blockbuster Imaginary. The film, which also sees Wise serve as executive producer, is set to be released on March 8, 2024 after wrapping production ahead of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

"In the movie, Jessica (Wise) moves back into her childhood home with her family. Her youngest stepdaughter Alice develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that begin playful and become increasingly sinister," reads the official logline for the film.

It concludes: "As Alice's behaviour becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realise Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be."

Jeff Wadlow directed and produced the movie, as well as co-writing the script alongside Greg Erb, Bryce McGuire and Jason Oremland. Jason Blum produces, with Ryan Turek joining Wise as executive producer.

"DeWanda has been more than a star on this movie — she has been a full creative partner. So much of horror grows out of our most basic fears of childhood, and DeWanda taps into all of that. You know that old saying that the audience's imagination is scarier than any movie? We're going to put that to the test," he said.

Lionsgate debuted the film's official eerie trailer in screenings for Five Nights at Freddy's last week, with audiences jumping out of their seats.

Wise is currently starring opposite Divergent's Shailene Woodley and Betty Gilpin in the Starz adaptation of Lisa Taddeo's bestselling book Three Women, as well as Chris Pine's directorial debut Poolman.

Imaginary will be released in cinemas on March 8, 2024.
