Britney Spears has revealed that she was "glad" to miss out on a role in 2004's romantic comedy The Notebook, in an excerpt from her memoir The Woman in Me.

The upcoming tell-all book will cover never-before-revealed details about the pop star's life, career and notorious conservatorship.

In an exclusive excerpt in People Magazine, Spears has touched on her short-lived acting career, including her reaction to missing out on a role opposite former Mickey Mouse Club co-star Ryan Gosling.

"The experience wasn’t easy for me," Spears wrote, while speaking about her 2002 role in Crossroads.

"My problem wasn’t with anyone involved in the production, but with what acting did to my mind. I think I started method acting – only I didn’t know how to break out of my character. I really became this other person..."

Continuing, she explained why she was "glad" that she didn't subsequently nail a role in The Notebook, which starred Rachel McAdams as its lead opposite Gosling.

"That was pretty much the beginning and end of my acting career, and I was relieved," she shared.

"The Notebook casting came down to me and Rachel McAdams, and even though it would have been fun to reconnect with Ryan Gosling after our time on the Mickey Mouse Club, I’m glad I didn’t do it.

"If I had, instead of working on my album In the Zone I’d have been acting like a 1940s heiress day and night."

Described as "a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope," The Woman in Me will also cover Spears's conservatorship at the hands of her family.

The legal arrangement, which was terminated in 2021 after 13 years, allowed Britney's father to control aspects of her life including her finances and even medical procedures.

A synopsis revealed: "Written with remarkable candour and humour, Spears's groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love - and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last."

The Woman in Me will be released on October 24.
