Donald Glover's proposed Lando television series is now being developed as a movie, with the Star Wars spin-off taking an exciting step forward.

Donald appeared as Lando Calrissian in 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story, with the character subsequently set to front their Disney+ series.

This is now no longer the case, with Variety reporting that the project is being conceived as a film, with Glover writing the project alongside his brother Stephen.

Stephen, who created Atlanta with his brother, confirmed the news during his appearance on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast, stating that the strikes in Hollywood affected their decision.

The news is a step in the right direction, with the previously hired Justin Simien revealing last month he had "poured his heart out" during early stages of production before he was eventually replaced by the Glover brothers.

Whilst specific plot details are still scarce, Donald did tease the prospect of returning as the character, who was played by Billy Dee Williams in both the original and sequel trilogies.

"Lando is charm incarnate. He's kind of a maverick, which I don't think there's a lot of anymore," said Donald. "It's hard to be the smooth talker nowadays. Where's the line? That's also where the danger is. How close can you get without tripping over it?

"I would love to play Lando again. It's a fun time being him. It just has to be the right way to do it. Time is precious; the past couple of years, [with the] pandemic, it really had people experience time. People realise their time is valuable - you only get so much.

"I'm not interested in doing anything that's going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I'd rather spend time with people that I enjoy. It just has to be the right thing, and I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I like to hang out with."

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+.
