Studio 666 spoilers follow.

Dave Grohl has weighed in on his upcoming horror comedy Studio 666, which includes a surprising Westworld cameo in its final scenes.

Expect a This Is Spinal Tap meets Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny kind of flick, with Grohl and his Foo Fighters bandmates playing fictionalised versions of themselves as they attempt to record their tenth album in a haunted mansion.

Alongside Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Pat Smear, Nate Mendel, Chris Shifflet and Rami Jaffee, the film also features two unexpected cameos from Lionel Richie and Westworld star Jimmi Simpson.

Grohl and bass player Mendel have revealed how Simpson came to be part of the project, shot in secret during the pandemic.

What to Read Next

"He was brought on to be our acting coach," Grohl said in an exclusive chat with Digital Spy. "So our first table read, we were like 'what the f**k is a table read?' We had no idea what that was! You know, everybody read through the script – producers, the director was there, and Jim was there.

"And afterwards he's like, 'Hey, you know, I'm going to be here in case you guys have any questions or need any help with anything. Just ask me and I can help you.' And we were like 'okay dude!'"

However, things didn't go as smoothly as Simpson had promised.

"And then he bailed! And he was in the f**king— I guess he has a career of his own," Ghrol said.

Mendel then said he would have loved to just light up a "bat signal" to ask Simpson for help: "But I wish we coulda, you know, like, lit up the bat signal or something like: 'Jimmi! I need help with a line!'"

Grohl confirmed Simpson had a bigger role than just his cameo and he was crucial for the making of Studio 666.

"So yes, he was amazing and yes his scene is really great at the end but he had a much more important role, other than just that last scene," the musician said.

Directed by BJ McDonnell, the film also stars You's Jenna Ortega, American Horror Story's Leslie Grossman as well as comedians Will Forte and Withney Cummings.

Studio 666 will be released exclusively in cinemas on February 25 in the UK and the US.
