Batgirl movie star Leslie Grace reveals first look at costume

Leslie Grace has shared a first look at her Batgirl costume – and it has a nod back to the comics.

The In the Heights star has officially posted a sneak peek at the superhero suit she will be wearing as Barbara Gordon for HBO Max's Batgirl.

The image comes as principal photography continues in Scotland for the upcoming DC movie that will tell the superhero's origin story.

In the post, Grace can be seen in her Batsuit, and captioned the post with a quote pulled from the comics.

"I use their expectations against them. That will be their weakness. Not mine. Let them all underestimate me [...] And when their guard is down, and their pride is rising, let me kick their butts [...] – Batgirl, Year One," she wrote.

The costume itself appears inspired by the Batgirl of Burnside comic by Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher, Babs Tarr, and Maris Wicks.

From the "sleek cowl" to the "majestic yellow cape", it is a design used in her early days as a crime fighter, explains Collider, which also speculated that this may not be the only costume she'll wear in the film.

Although plot details remain under wraps for the project, Michael Keaton will reprise his role as Batman – potentially as a mentor to Grace's Barbara Gordon. But he will first return as the Caped Crusader later this year in The Flash in a supporting role opposite Ezra Miller.

And if Keaton wasn't enough, JK Simmons is also due to reprise his role as Commissioner James Gordon, Barbara's father, and Brendan Fraser is also expected to make an appearance as Garfield Lynns/Firefly.

Batgirl is set to be released on HBO Max.
