Patty Jenkins' upcoming Star Wars movie has delayed production, reportedly due to the Wonder Woman director's busy schedule.

The filmmaker was confirmed last year to be helming the next big-screen outing in a galaxy far, far away, called Rogue Squadron, with production initially slated to start next year ahead of a December 2023 release.

However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the team have realised that Jenkins' schedule and other commitments won't allow for that sort of window, and as such, the movie has been taken off the production schedule.

Jenkins has also been working on Wonder Woman 3 and a Cleopatra film, and while the plan was for the DC sequel to follow Star Wars, that could now change. However, the idea appears to be that she will return to Rogue Squadron when she has lightened her workload.

The 2023 release date is still in place for her Star Wars movie for the time being, but whether that will shift – or another movie in the franchise takes its place beforehand – remains to be seen.

Back in the summer, Jenkins gave an update on Rogue Squadron, saying at the time that it was "going amazing", confirming: "I had been on it already for six months before I even announced that, so we're pretty deep into it.

"We're finishing a script, crewing up, and it's all going wonderful. I'm so excited about the story and excited that we're the next chapter of Star Wars, which is such a responsibility and such an opportunity to really start some new things. It's really exciting in that way."

Alongside Rogue Squadron, further movies from the Star Wars universe are planned from Taika Waititi and Marvel's Kevin Feige, while The Last Jedi's Rian Johnson still appears to have a trilogy on the way.

The next Star Wars project on the way is TV series The Book of Boba Fett, which will land on Disney+ this December.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+, while Rise of Skywalker is also on Sky Cinema Premiere and NOW.
