Star Wars' new movie Rogue Squadron to be directed by Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins

The next Star Wars movie to be released has been announced – and it's going to be directed by Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins.

Rogue Squadron, centred on the fighter pilots made famous in the Star Wars films, will be released on Christmas Day 2023.

It will introduce a new generation of fighter pilots set in a future era of the galaxy as they unite to defend good against evil.

The project marks the first feature film in the franchise to be directed by a woman.

In the Star Wars universe, Rogue Squadron was founded by Wedge Antilles, a skilled pilot who appears in Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

No other details about the new movie have emerged just yet.

The announcement was made during Disney Investor Day on Thursday (December 10), where the studio revealed its future plans including 10 – yes, 10! – Star Wars series over the next few years.

It's an exciting month for Jenkins, with Wonder Woman 1984 simultaneously releasing on HBO Max and in cinemas on Christmas Day in the US. It will release on December 16 in cinemas in the UK.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+, while Rise of Skywalker is also on Sky Cinema Premiere and NOW TV.
