Watchmen star Regina King has made waves in the industry over the last year, not just for her role in the very well-received comic book adaptation, but also for the film One Night in Miami, her directorial debut that got a lot of positive buzz at film festivals.

Amazon announced that it had picked the film up for a release back in July, but it's only now that it has confirmed the release date. Or rather, dates.

One Night in Miami will be released in cinemas on December 25 in the US and December 26 in the UK. If you don't want to go to a cinema in the current climate, and we don't blame you, the film will come out on Amazon Prime Video on January 15, 2021.

Based on a 2013 play, the film is about four men: Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, Jim Brown and Cassius Clay (who later became Muhammad Ali).

Following Clay being crowned World Heavyweight Boxing Champion in 1964, he sits down with his friends to share their vision for the world and the Black community's part in it. Eli Goree, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Leslie Odom Jr and Aldis Hodge star.

"To complete and release a film within the same year is a difficult task," Regina King said.

"We welcomed the challenge because we knew now was the time for this film to be released. Amazon fully supported our intention and I could not be more excited this prescient story will be seen across the globe."
