Mulan star Jimmy Wong has discussed his next Asian-led film which stars the likes of Constance Wu and John Cho.
Also featuring Jackie Chan, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, and Will Yun Lee, Wish Dragon is an animated film set in contemporary China, centring on a boy who encounters a wish-fulfilling dragon.
During a recent interview with Digital Spy, Jimmy – who can be seen as Ling in the live-action Mulan remake – described the upcoming movie as "really heartwarming but very comedic as well".

"This wonderful project that I auditioned for is an animated movie all about the story of a young boy named Din, who grows up and lives in modern-day Shanghai and comes across a magical teapot," he explained.
"And inside of it is this wonderful, silly, beautiful, pink fluffy dragon that's voiced by John Cho, who is able to grant him three wishes. The story has similarities to Aladdin, and it is marvelously cute and family-friendly but filled with great deeper messaging about this kid and his journey to reconnect with a long-lost childhood friend.
What to Read Next
"[It's] a fun and very funny story at the end of the day. Of course, it has serious undertones but if you're going to have John Cho voicing a big, pink, fluffy dragon, you're going to get a lot of fun comedy out of it.
"The cast is fantastic, and I had an absolute blast working on it."
One aspect of the film that appeals to Jimmy is how director Chris Appelhans and the animation studios in China were aiming to make Wish Dragon feel "authentic".
"The director is someone who works so hard, day and night," he said.
"I was able to visit the animation studios in China and see the amount of work that they were going through and just walking through that office, you could tell how much love was being poured into every single frame of this movie and how much detail and care was being paid to making sure the landmarks that they show in the movie – even down to the room and the house and the apartment that the main character lives in – is culturally authentic.
"It felt really comforting to know that there were so many people focused on making sure that they were telling a really authentic and great story, so I'm really excited for people to see it."
Mulan is available to Disney+ subscribers in selected countries. Premier Access to the movie is priced at £19.99 in the UK and $29.99 in the US.
