Star Wars' Alden Ehrenreich opens up about whether he'll reprise Han Solo role

Star Wars actor Alden Ehrenreich has revealed whether he will reprise the role of Han Solo in the future following his stint in the spin-off movie Solo.

The actor played the younger incarnation of Harrison Ford's smuggler in the 2018 movie, which opened to lukewarm reviews and became the lowest-grossing movie in the franchise.

Questions over Solo's future have sprung up ever since the movie's release, and asked whether he would ever take up the role again, Ehrenreich admitted it would depend on a number of factors.

"It depends on what it is," he told Esquire. "It depends on how it's done. It depends if it feels innate to the story."

Addressing the possibility of a Solo sequel, Ehrenreich added: "No, I don't know anything about that. I mean, you know, I think our movie was kind of the last of the conventional-era Star Wars movie release time."

However, he did offer a positive note, admitting: "I've heard some stuff, but nothing concrete."

Last year, fans of Solo started a campaign for the movie to get a sequel, with director Ron Howard seemingly endorsing it with a smiley face on Twitter.

In 2018, the director said of more potential Solo movies: "I think the fans are going to define all of that. I mean I think that Lucasfilm and Disney in casting actors, and particularly younger actors, want to see what happens and build upon that.

"Certainly, they want the commitment from the young actors, but there are no concrete plans. I think there's been a lot of creative energy and now marketing energy going behind this movie.

"I think these are exactly what they're meant to be, or what they're designed to be. They're single movies exploring the galaxy; but of course, as a company, I think they're going to be very interested to see how people respond to it and take it from there.

"This whole thing is kind of a cool, ambitious exploration of what the galaxy and the Star Wars sensibility can continue to mean to fans."

The Mandalorian, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+, while Rise of Skywalker is also on Sky Cinema Premiere and NOW TV.
