Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hasn't even been out a month yet, but the final instalment of the Skywalker Saga has officially made $1 billion at the global box office.
The Force is not as strong as it could've been with Episode IX, but Disney has now confirmed that The Rise of Skywalker is the fifth title in the Star Wars franchise to reach the impressive milestone (via Entertainment Weekly).
Since its premiere in December, JJ Abrams' epic conclusion has made around $480 million in the US alone, and taken a further $519 million from around the world. They're mind-bending figures, sure, but still a way behind The Force Awakens' $2.07 billion and The Last Jedi's $1.33 billion.

Rounding off a successful year for Disney, in terms of finances at least, The Rise of Skywalker is now the House of Mouse's seventh billion-dollar release of 2019, following Avengers: Endgame, The Lion King, Captain Marvel, Toy Story 4, Aladdin (!), and Frozen 2.
The Rise of Skywalker's galaxy-sized takings are good news in other ways, too, like for the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, which reportedly dropped a lot of cash on one Baby Yoda.

"I remember the first take that I did when I punched him. They called 'Cut!'" Pally explained. "Jon, who was watching on a monitor in his office, he came down from this office and said, 'I just want to let you know that this is the hero Yoda and it costs, like, $5 million.
"'So while I want you to hit it, I just want you to know that.'"
