Despite things being pretty quiet on the Rian Johnson Star Wars front recently, the director has assured everyone that it's all very much still in the works.

The Last Jedi director was announced to be making a new trilogy of Star Wars movies years ago, but information has been pretty scarce since.

However, Johnson has revealed that things are all ticking along, telling Variety: "I'm still talking to Lucasfilm but they haven't announced anything on their slate yet."

Following the release of The Rise of Skywalker, the franchise seems to be taking a bit of a break from the big screen, with Disney boss Bob Iger recently confirming that the movies will go "into a hiatus for a few years".

So it seems Johnson's films will be a while off yet.

Speaking back in September, Johnson said of his movies: "The truth is they're still figuring out their schedule, their game plan. If it's possible for me to squeeze in another film before or while working on that, I will."

If he does find some time to fit in another movie, it could be a Knives Out sequel, which Johnson recently revealed he is developing.

Elaborating on it in the new interview, the director teased: "I'm always kind of saying, 'If this movie does all right, I would be thrilled to another one'. But a lot has to happen. I have to write a script.

"The fun thing is thinking about it in the context of Agatha Christie and Poirot or Miss Marple. That way, the sky's the limit. It's, 'What is the next case?' It's not about building a mythology around the character."

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out now.
