Irvine Welsh has teased the possibility of making a third Trainspotting movie with director Danny Boyle.
The Scottish author has written a number of novels featuring the main players from his heroin-addled universe, including Mark Renton, Francis Begbie, Sick Boy and Spud, so the potential for a trilogy-closer isn't difficult to imagine at all.

Speaking on the Anything Goes podcast recently, Welsh joked: "You think The Godfather [Part] III, Terminator 3 [Rise of the Machines] – there's the temptation to do the Holy Trinity, it might evoke Danny's inner Catholic.
"It took us long enough to work up the bottle to do number two [T2: Trainspotting]. They'll all be in the rest home by the time we had the bottle to do number three."
He then urged Yesterday director Boyle to get the project in motion, adding: "We'd have to get moving on it pretty quickly. But it's something that would be massively interesting to me."

As for how this hypothetical third instalment would shape up? Welsh believes that Robert Carlyle's Begbie deserves his own standalone "90-minute film", where he'd proceed to go "nuts".
