Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's Daisy Ridley addresses if Dark Side Rey is real

Following the latest jaw-dropping footage released from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Daisy Ridley has addressed that Rey moment at the end of the video.

Here, Daisy's scavenger-turned-Jedi-apprentice can be seen wielding a red, double-edged lightsaber similar to that of Darth Maul's from The Phantom Menace, which begs the question: has one of our central heroes turned to the Dark Side?

Following the video's debut at D23 Expo last week, Daisy told Yahoo Movies: "I mean, the evidence is on the screen. Take that evidence as you will. But there's no smoke without fire."

'Evidence' is probably stretching it a bit though, because obviously we don't currently know what context that scene will be given in the final movie. Is it a vision of Rey's future if she takes the wrong path? Is the Sith Lord's voiceover even addressing her?

These are all questions we'll see answered when The Rise of Skywalker blasts onto the big screen this Christmas, but it'd be a huge surprise if the filmmakers decided to offer a spoiler of this magnitude so early.

Meanwhile, Daisy is sounding optimistic that Episode IX will satisfy fans of the franchise.

"Just wait and see what JJ [Abrams] and [co-writer Chris Terrio] did," she said. "It's really impressive how they wrapped it up altogether and hopefully [with] a fitting ending."

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be released on Thursday, December 19 in the UK and Friday, December 20 in the US.
