Fans had a lot to geek out about in Disney's latest trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, from the use of old clips of Han Solo smooching Leia to Luke finding out who his father is to Rey wearing dark robes and brandishing a red lightsaber.
But there was one aspect of the space opera sequel's new teaser that sent people flocking to Twitter in search of answers, and that was the glimpse at dutiful droid C-3PO with unusually menacing eyes.
"C-3PO with red eyes? Built by Darth Vader? He’s been a double agent this whole time,"one fan speculated, while another said: "Is this C-3PO!? HE GOT RED EYES!? EVERYONE IS DARK SIDE IT’S THE LAST STAR WARS MOVIE BECAUSE WE ALL GONNA DIE."
"Hear me out, what if Threepio is possessed by Sidious’s spirit?" a third guessed.
Other were less concerned about discovering the reasons behind Threepio's new look and just turned it into a meme.
