It's been four months since the first trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released, and we've now finally got some brand new footage.

Sadly, it wasn't a full trailer, but a teaser that looked back at the legacy of the series, ending with some seriously great new footage from the new movie, as well as a new poster, which debuted at D23 Expo.

The new footage ended with a big tease, showing Rey (Daisy Ridley) wielding a dual lightsaber while wearing a dark hood as she and Kylo (Adam Driver) fought on a downed ship in the middle of the sea as a fleet of star destroyers appeared.

And Palpatine makes his presence known too as we hear him say "it near its end" before an epic face-off between Kylo Ren and Rey.

Earlier this month, the runtime of the climactic chapter in the Skywalker Saga was hinted at by the brother of legendary composer John Williams.

"John's started up with another Star Wars. He's got 135 minutes worth of music to write, so that kinda tells you how long the film is," his brother Don confirmed, although it's worth noting that the movie will probably be longer than that.

For the moment, we feel that they working for the returning Emperor Palpatine, rather than Kylo Ren, but maybe the movie has a surprise in store for fans. Could it be that they're linked to the 'Unknown Regions'?

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be released on December 19 in the UK and December 20 in the US.
