Remember that picture that showed what Sonic the Hedgehog looked like underneath all that blue fur? Yeah, that scared the hell out of us.

Well, luckily Sonic's fur is back, for definite, in Paramount Pictures' first official poster as we get our first look at a new live-action film adaptation set for release in 2019. But just because the fur's back, doesn't mean things are back to normal.

The poster gives a tease at what the iconic hedgehog looks like now and, well, Sonic has a whole new appearance.

His sculpted body figure has totally ruined the childhood memories of our favourite cartoon character. Muscular legs and hands? And red sneakers? Why?

Shortly after the news broke on Twitter, fans weren't exactly too impressed with Sonic's new appearance.

Speaking to IGN, executive producer Tim Miller said: "That was always Stage 1 of adapting it to what the real world is and what a real animal would be like.

"It would be weird and it would feel like he was running around nude if he was some sort of otter-like thing. It was always, for us, fur, and we never considered anything different. It’s part of what integrates him into the real world and makes him a real creature."

Referring to the red shoes, producer Neal Moritz said: "We looked at every different variation of what shoes he's worn and we're trying to pay homage to that and also make it current and present day in what we think a Sonic of today would wear."

What can't be seen clearly from the first official poster are Sonic's eyes.

Guess we'll have to wait and see on that one.

Sonic The Hedgehog is set to be released in 2019, with a US release on November 8, 2019 and a UK release on December 26, 2019.
