Nintendo has dropped a strong hint that the Happy Mask Salesman from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask will appear in a future entry in the series.

The gaming giant ran a mock interview with the character on its Miiverse website and teased his return in a "new Zelda game".

He said: "I've certainly been appearing all over the place these past few days! If this keeps going, maybe it wouldn't be a stretch to expect me to pop up in a new Zelda game, too?

"I've got some new masks, too, if you'd like to try them on… If I do make an appearance, I'm sure everyone will experience such happiness."

It has yet to be confirmed which Zelda game the Happy Mask Salesman will return in, with Zelda Wii U and Hyrule Warriors possible candidates.

Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D was released for 3DS in February.
