In case you didn't know, Marvel's The Punisher, aka Frank Castle, has a new wardrobe in the comics... because he's currently War Machine.

The latest issue in the ongoing series – The Punisher 224 – came out this week, revealing the next phase for the anti-hero's story, as he brings the armour back to the US and faces off with some of Marvel's out-and-out goodies.

"This is the beginning of our new arc entitled PUNISHER: WAR CRIMINAL," writer Matthew Rosenberg posted on Twitter.

"Thank you to all the folks who picked it up and had nice things to say."

And fans seemed unanimous in their praise (and excitement).

"Oh man do I LOVE this comic! Frank vs the MU Heroes is glorious!!! So many great moments from Punisher 224," said one.

What to Read Next

Elsewhere in the TV world, The Punisher season two is gearing up, with filming pictures from the set giving us a first glimpse at new character Amy Bendix (Giorgia Whigham).

Jon Bernthal returns for another run as Frank Castle, though speculation is rife as to what comics storyline season two will tell.

Amy is described in the show as a "street-smart grifter", possibly deviating from her comics origin.

In her first appearance in 1994's Punisher: War Zone #24 (via CBR), she helped the Punisher back to health for the 'Suicide Run' arc, though her father, a county sheriff, imprisoned him.

Amy was then taken hostage by assassins, leaving her father no choice but to release the Punisher.

The Punisher season one is currently available to stream on Netflix.
