This article contains spoilers for season seven of New Girl, which has not aired in the UK yet.

While New Girl is usually full of humour and Zooey Deschanel being oh so quirky, one episode of season seven broke our hearts.

The show bade farewell to Winston's cat and life partner Furguson, who died of natural causes and went to kitty heaven, with a tombstone reading "and now his watch has ended".

Entertainment Weekly interviewed Winston star Lamorne Morris ahead of the series finale airing tomorrow (May 15), and asked him what his character's final words to his late whiskered friend would have been.

Morris answered: "He probably said, 'My son, go in peace. And when you get reincarnated, please come back as LeBron James.' [Laughs] Something like that. 'My son, go in peace. Your mother will be devastated.'"

He also said that he pinched Furguson's tombstone and the 'alien war' mural from the set after filming wrapped.

Speaking about the finale, Morris revealed: "The finale is very touching. I think they did it the right way. Had we ended after season six, it would have felt uneven…

"And when you see [the series finale], it's gonna sound cliché, but I think you will get a warm feeling."

New Girl airs on E4 in the UK, although it hasn't announced when it will show season seven just yet.
