We were promised X-Men Easter eggs in season two of Legion, and the show did not disappoint in this week's second episode… if you caught it, that is.

In 'Chapter 10', we see Carry Loudermilk (Bill Irwin) look into the mysterious orb that took David (Dan Stevens) away at the end of season one.

He tells Kerry Loudermilk that it's "advanced", adding: "but not Shi'ar. That was my first guess as well. No, I can't shake the feeling that I somehow constructed it, this orb. Believe me, I know how that sounds, yes."

In case you don't know, the Shi'ar are one of the major alien races in the X-Men and Marvel lore that were first introduced in the comic X-Men #97.

Alongside some of their tech that has been incorporated into X-Men, the Shi'ar's Empress Lilandra was even once married to Charles Xavier, and they also play a major role in the Dark Phoenix Saga.

Of course, this may have been just a throwaway line for fans – but a reference, however small, is still exciting nonetheless.

Stevens teased to Digital Spy earlier this week that little references would be plotted through season two, saying: "Bringing some of those X-Men traits into our world, it all adds to the fun of the mix.

"There are definitely things that are laced into the show that are there to tantalise the fans a bit. And there are elements [in season two] that you'll recognise."

As for the persistent rumour that his character's dad Professor X may have a cameo, Stevens said: "Well, it's ever-present. I don't want to give too much away. Let's just say that it's an ongoing concern of David's, and I think it will… grow."

Legion airs on Tuesdays at 10/9c on FX in the US. It premieres in the UK on Tuesday, April 17 at 9pm on FOX – and the show is also available via NOW TV.
