More details are coming out about the upcoming reboot of Roswell, that early noughties science-fiction drama that was just overflowing with hormones.

Deadline reports that Grey's Anatomy star Jeanine Mason has been cast in the lead role of Liz Ortecho, a biomedical researcher who returns to New Mexico and discovers her high school crush is an alien, and that the government are involved in something shady.

Before long, a larger alien presence and a threat to mankind is discovered, which could be catastrophic if made public.

The character of Ortecho is said to be the daughter of undocumented immigrants, and immigration is said to be a major theme in this revamp. And that's the gist of it.

Currently, Roswell has only been commissioned for a pilot episode, with The Vampire Diaries and The Originals boss Julie Plec on board to direct. If it gets a full series order then Plec will continue on as executive producer.

What to Read Next

Jeanine Mason is famous for her recurring role as Dr Sam Bello on Grey's Anatomy, but has also appeared in Big Time Rush and Of Kings and Prophets.

She also competed on So You Think You Can Dance, becoming both the show's youngest winner at age 18 and the first Cuban-American to do so.

The CW has also ordered a pilot for a reboot of Charmed, which hasn't exactly gone down well with the original cast.
