People seem to be, on the whole, liking American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. Darren Criss gives a layered performance, and the whole thing is a treat visually.
But some people have major issues with Ryan Murphy's latest project. Those people being the ones who knew Versace personally.
Antonio D'Amico, who was the designer's long-time partner, has said that the series is a "misrepresentation" and a "fantasy".

The model and designer told People that "significant parts of the [series] on Gianni Versace's murder do not reflect the reality of the events that took place".
"I feel – together with those who know me well – that my character... is a misrepresentation of myself and what our relationship was like."

D'Amico focused on a particular scene, in which Versace met his killer Andrew Cunanan on stage after bumping into him at a club, calling it "pure fantasy".
"I remember it clearly because it was quite an event," he insisted. "That supposed meeting never took place. At least not on that day and in that setting.
"Just an aside, Gianni did not drink alcohol – everyone knew that – so even the champagne scene with [Andrew] Cunanan is fictitious."
He also added that "neither Gianni nor I were looking to get married or to have children".
"All we wanted was to live our relationship in the open – as we did. We were more than happy to have the nieces and nephews that we had and were not seeking children of our own."
Gianni Versace's family previously called the series "a work of fiction", while Ryan Murphy defended the show as "not a documentary".
