Warning: This article contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season 7.

Game of Thrones saw a number of deaths in the most recent season, but there was one which some fans argued was left a little open-ended.

Yes, we're talking about Benjen Stark, played by Joseph Mawle.

The former First Ranger of the Night's Watch showed up at the best possible time during the events of season 7 episode 'Beyond the Wall', coming to Jon Snow's aid and sacrificing himself by confronting the Night King's undead army to allow his nephew to get away.

Yet some people are still in denial, holding out hope for Benjen to make a comeback in the final season.

Those hopes have been dashed by the season 7 DVD commentary, as Alan Taylor – who directed that very episode – decided not to talk around it.

After all, the entire cast and crew did fib about Jon Snow's fate when he was temporarily killed at the conclusion of the fifth season.

Meanwhile, Bran Stark actor Isaac Hempstead Wright shared that he doesn't believe everybody will be happy with the series finale, explaining that it "will be too happy for some people, or too sad, or too whatever".

Game of Thrones season 8 will air on HBO in the US and on Sky Atlantic in the UK in 2019.
