Sad news, Penny Dreadful fans. The gothic horror series has come to an end after three seasons.
Following a stunning cliffhanger in Sunday's season three finale, Showtime has released a video in which Penny Dreadful creator John Logan confirms his story has ended.
Warning: The video contains spoilers for the end of the series:
"We knew where it was going and how we wanted to end it," he says. "It seemed to be the only place it could end."
The Sam Mendes-produced Penny Dreadful has earned a loyal fanbase for its stark horror drama co-mingling iconic monsters from 19th-century fiction.
Josh Hartnett and Eva Green led the series as seemingly-doomed lovers Ethan Chandler and Vanessa Ives, while Rory Kinnear, Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney and Billie Piper played strange characters who crossed their path.
Showtime aired Penny Dreadful in the US, while Sky Atlantic carried the series in the UK.
